Oak Pass House 2002 | Beverly Hills, California

This private residence in Beverly Hills is on a site consisting of an upper ridge and two plateaus that increase in size as the site steps downhill to the west. The owner's program had a corresponding variation in scale from the largest horizontal element˜a tennis court˜decreasing in scale to the public zone of the house, with sleeping spaces at the smallest scale. The elements were fit to the site under the canopy of the roof that not only forms the new profile of the ridge, but also roofs the site, rather than just the program of the house. The edge of the tennis plane is folded up to contain guest spaces under the southern edge. We designed the house around the various planes of the site to create a sequence of outdoor rooms partially enclosed by elements of the “site roof.”
